This is the first I've seen/heard of this and I can't help but put it in the "unnecessary" category of media viewing features right along side 3D. I don't see this delivering on any sort of genuine user need. Feels more like Xbox flexing its tech muscles in the mirror.
I'm sure the voice recognition is going to be above average, but all it is going to take is a couple times of getting it wrong and users will go back to the remote. No one likes having to repeat themselves whether it's to a human or machine.
I applaud MS and Apple for pushing the envelope and shipping new tech "early," but I feel like the user is being pushed into an experience rather than pulled in both cases.
I'd much rather see a TV platform deliver breakthrough UI via a remote based peripheral than voice.
