I try not to talk too much about the work we're doing at space150, but this is one I wanted to share for a few reasons. (I hope you don't mind. I promise to not make it a recurring thing.) First, it's been fun to see come to life over the past few months. Secondly, we need your help in making it a success. Third, if you participate, you could win up to $5,000.
So, what is it?
A PowerPoint Karaoke (or, Battle Decks if you prefer) competition to help create awareness for (our client) Imation's Wireless Projection Link. You can get all the details here. What we really need right now are people willing to host an event, which we'll provide a kit for – just see the main page of the site and check out the info on the right if you're interested. If not, but you know someone who might be, please pass it along.
Thanks for letting me interrupt with a little work stuff. Now, I promise to get back to sharing the things you're used to seeing here...
Some of you may have noticed that sometime last April, we (space150 – where I work) quietly launched ideas are awesome. Now that we've got some momentum behind it, I thought I'd share more about it here.
In February we were debating what to do with the agency blog. It was kind of just poking along as people didn't have a lot of time on their hands to contribute to it regularly. So we decided to start thinking about what else we could do that would fit well with our culture and allow us to share some of it with others.
In looking at a common behavior within the agency—people sending out agency-wide emails about something new, cool or interesting for discussion, often at the same time, if not before a lot of the leading trend blogs picked it up—a small group of us decided that a site that took advantage of this already existing behavior and documented it would be very worthwhile for us and our clients at a minimum.
Around that same time, I had been giving a presentation to various clients of ours on key themes for connecting with people to look at for 2009. Putting the presentation together took a decent amount of time, as you can imagine, and in going through it a few times, we realized that it could be used to guide this new agency blog's categories.
So far this seems to have worked out pretty well. By using Tumblr to power it, people are able to quickly put up a post with whatever it is they came across. In addition to the site, we've also created a Twitter account for it where we currently have the site feed to, but we'll be doing more with in the very near future (I'll announce that shortly here as well).
Anyway, wanted to share with you so you could check it out if you already haven't. Please let us know what you think—feel free to leave any comments or thoughts here. Also, here's the presentation I mentioned earlier in case you're curious as to what was behind the themes/categories...
Been meaning to let those of you in the Twin Cities area know that we're hosting another DEEPSPACE event. This one will be a bit more like the Mobile version we put on last fall, only we won't be doing any of the presenting.
As you can see in the image above, the topic for this month is 2009 Trends. It's taking place this Thursday (the 22nd) at FIne Line Music Cafe from 12:45p.m. to 7p.m.
We'll be hearing from a nice mix of good people from PSFK, Google, at&t, General Mills, Dairy Queen, Chip Gnassi Racing and Media Math. All the details can be found on the DEEPSPACE page, including links to the agenda and RSVP pages.
One last bit of good news - it's completely FREE to attend. All we ask is that you please complete the RSVP so we can let all of the presenters and the kind folks at Fine Line know how many people to expect.
If you're here and can make it on Thursday afternoon, I look forward to seeing you.
Adrian delivered a great talk on the evolution of branding and posed some questions around what type of people we need to build strong brands today. Dion shared some thought-provoking views expanding upon his earlierposts regarding the idea of Manners for the Modern Brand™.
For a little background on my presentation, I made the unfortunate error of committing to a headline/topic before I ever considered what I'd want to say about Modern Brand Building. (We needed something to put on the Deepspace page for what the September topic would be.) Campaigning turned out not to be quite the right term for what I wanted to say, but I think it ended up working out alright for now.
It's certainly not a new thought (staying true to what your brand is really about), but one I thought needed to be brought back to light as more and more ways to communicate with people come forward and marketers can be tempted to dive into them before thinking through if it is the right thing for their brand/client's brand or not.
It's also something that has become an issue as Jon Steel noted with CMO turnover on the client side having increased and with every change of the guard, a change of the brand often ensues.
Anyway, would love to hear any thoughts, comments or criticisms. This is very much a work in progress
Just a quick post to share that the presentations from our Deepspace mobile event are up along with some of the support/handout materials from a few of the sponsors. Above is the keynote address from Chuck Levine, which can be found with all the rest either in the presentations section of the Deepspace site or at the profile for space150 on SlideShare.
If you were able to make the event and have any constructive thoughts you'd like to share that we can use for future events like this or on other topics, please let the mobile team know via email.
I don't write about things we're doing at space too often, but this is something definitely worth sharing. We're putting on a mobile marketing workshop that anyone can attend. Here are a few details...
Beginning at 1 PM on Monday, August 11, 2008 at the Fine Line Music Cafe a lineup of leading mobile executives from around the country will be discussing current and future important mobile topics that brand marketers and agency-folk alike need to be thinking about as they try to tackle the complex world of mobile marketing.
The presentations will last until about 5:30 PM and will be followed by a happy hour that will go until 7 PM. Admission is free with advance registration.
All of the information, including links to the full agenda and RSVP page, can be found on the main page for the event.
If you're here in Minneapolis, planning on being here during the event, or want to make a trip just for it, please join us.
If you've come by here a bit, you might notice that I don't talk much about the work my agency is doing/has done. This has very much been a conscious decision in the spirit of, "Nobody likes a bragger," something that my parents instilled in me at a very early age.
But I want to try this out. Not to show off what we're doing, as that's not me at all, but in the spirit of sharing and hopefully, to get some constructive feedback and thoughts if you feel so inclined. If you think this is a bad idea for me to start doing, feel free to let me know that as well. My mind is far from made up on if this will stick or not. For now, I'm just going to try it on and see how it feels. Anyway...
Virtual Therapy is something we just launched for Starz to help them promote Head Case, an original series of theirs. They came to us with a request for something that we could create in a short time frame which would help get the word out to more people about the show. Anyway, Let Dr. Goode analyze you and see what your diagnosis is.
Like I mentioned above, if you've got any thoughts, please feel free to share them. And thanks for humoring me on this while I work through it.
I'm heading back to Colorado to celebrate the Holidays with my family and I know I won't be on here most likely, so I thought I'd leave a final note/post of the year on a more personal level.
2007 has been quite the year both personally and professionally. I wouldn't have predicted at the beginning of it all where things have ended up for me. It has all been very surprising and I guess it's just this that makes life interesting and enjoyable.
The posts on here have been infrequent since moving up to Minneapolis and I look to change that and start fresh in 2008. These last four months have been exciting and inspiring. The challenges of starting a new life in a new city have been helping me grow and learn in ways I never expected. I absolutely love it and can't wait to see what 2008 brings.
A lot of what has me inspired and excited is going to work each day at space150. I feel very fortunate to have landed at the space and I know that my move to the Twin Cities would not have been the same were it not for all the great people there who have shown me much kindness and made me feel very at home. I'm proud to work with such passionate, driven, and smart people.
To close, here is someofthework we've done in the past few months that I've been at space. This is just a small sampling of what was done this year and looking back at it now makes me look forward to all that 2008 will bring even more.
While I try not to talk about myself or my company's work here, I thought I'd let everyone know that posts are going to be slow over the next few weeks.
As Sean let people know over on whizdumb, I've accepted a job in Minneapolis at space150 and will be moving up there shortly. I'm very excited about this new opportunity, the team I'll be working with (here are two of them), the things I'll be working on, and the agency. Not to mention getting to know and love a new city.
While I am in this transition, it's going to be harder to keep on top of the blog. I'll do my best to keep posting regularly, but in case I miss a chunk of time, now you know why.
Thanks in advance for your patience and as always, for stopping by.
